Diagnostic Testing and Psychological Evaluations

Dr. Cari Alvarez is a licensed bilingual psychologist with over a decade of experience specializing in comprehensive psychological evaluations for autism, ADHD, learning differences, and emotional and behavioral challenges. Her work goes beyond diagnosis, offering families clear, evidence-based insights and practical strategies that improve day-to-day functioning for children and the overall well-being of the family.

Dr. Alvarez is part of the Harvard teaching team and has taught across the educational spectrum from elementary classrooms to graduate-level university courses. She has also worked in diverse clinical settings, including children’s hospitals, academic medical centers, nonprofit clinics, and internationally on U.S. military bases. Her academic contributions include peer-reviewed research on autism, cross-cultural care, and behavioral interventions focused on parent support.

Her clinical approach is grounded in Parent Management Training (PMT) and Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), two of the most effective and research-supported frameworks for reducing tantrums, meltdowns, and defiance; supporting emotional regulation and follow-through; managing ADHD and autism-related behavior; improving family routines, transitions, and resilience; and helping caregivers feel confident rather than reactive or overwhelmed.

Families often seek Dr. Alvarez’s expertise not only for diagnostic clarity but also for concrete next steps. She provides structured, individualized recommendations that are developmentally informed, realistic for daily life, and grounded in the latest psychological science.

Above all, her goal is to ensure that parents feel informed, supported, and empowered, with tools that make a measurable difference in their child’s life.
